Another suitcase to Cuba, thanks to Rick! [NJT Toronto]
“We dropped off this suitcase at what appeared to be a smallish clinic in Vedado, but was actually 2 buildings with 28 doctors!
The doctor who received us was actually visibly moved with the donation. The doctor did not feel comfortable having her picture taken. No problem getting suitcase through customs.
We had a tour guide who was very helpful. He gave us a very informative and very reasonable tour. But before that he took us straight to the clinic and helped us navigate our way around. The deputy director of the clinic was very happy to accept the suitcase and was visibly moved. She hugged us and thanked us profusely.
The clinic was in two buildings, one that was 5 storey and the other 2 storey. They offered many health services, including emergency, family medicine and women’s health. 28 doctors employed there.
I wanted to take a suitcase because I am aware of the tremendous material challenges faced by the health care system in Cuba. It all went very smoothly. I would do it again for sure!
