Traveller delivery to Cuba — 2022-03-18

NJT Manitoba – Winnipeg wishes to share Dolores and Ron’s story of their trip to Cuba.

It was a bit challenging and wearing a mask in the hot weather was not fun, but we remained safe and healthy.

This year, because of covid we decided that we would not leave the resort on any excursions. But we were able to make contact with the same nurse that works at the hospital in Banes, Cuba, where we have donated supplies for several years before the last time (2020).

Roberto Carlos met us at our hotel, and we gave him some funds to be able to bring his family (wife and 2 kids) to the hotel for 2 nights. We thought that this would be a nice gesture to give them a holiday, that they would never have been able to enjoy without our help. And knowing that Roberto has just worked through the pandemic in Cuba, where, on a good day they never had sufficient supplies, one can only imagine the difficulties they faced in the last 2 years. It has been incredibly difficult, and there were times they felt very alone, and really appreciate everything we did for them.

We delivered one suitcase into Roberto’s care, which he took to Banes the next day and delivered it to their manager. They were in need of every single item that was in that suitcase, he said. It was gratifying to be able to help in any small way, and the effort we took to bring that suitcase was well worth it. We wish we could do more, and we will at the next available opportunity.
