Thanks NJT-Waterloo for giving us 2 suitcases of medical supplies to donate in Cuba. We were in the rural south west, where there are only 2 resorts and not many tourists. It is definitely a poorer area, not like Varadero where we previously donated. We also gave a few bags of my kids outgrown shoes and clothes. We donated at the Pilon hospital, which is the main hospital in this rural area and was about a 30 minute cab ride from our resort. I took the below photo of my kids with the hospital head nurse of international (who spoke English), hospital director and head administrator. Someone had brough a NJT-Toronto suitcase to the same hospital the day before, but they hadn’t received one since September before that. The other suitcase had different supplies, and all were very much appreciated. This was a very rewarding experience for our family, and while Cubans have free universal healthcare, it certainly made us appreciate the resources we have in Canada.- Sally B, NJT Waterloo
