NJT Manitoba – Winnipeg wants to thank Tristan for taking supplies to Cuba. Tristan writes:
I delivered the suitcase to the General Hospital in Cardenas, Cuba. The medical staff were gracious to receive the gift of medical supplies from Canada. I was staying in Varadero so I took a taxi to the hospital which is just off of the main highway when you first drive into Cardenas. After delivering the suitcase I went for lunch in the city centre and made a day out of it by exploring Cardenas before going back to my hotel.
During my 1 week stay in Varadero I did as many Sunwing/Nexus Tour excursions as possible. I didn’t just want to stay in Varadero. I wanted to see the other parts of the country. I got to visit Havana, Cienfuegos, Trinidad and Santa Clara. I even got to hike in the mountain of Topes de Collantes. I told my tour guide (who just happens to live in Cardenas) that I delivered a suitcase full of medical supplies to the hospital in her city. She thanked me and told me that was the best use of bringing a suitcase to Cuba. She explained to me that you can bring gifts and toiletries to give out to the staff at the resort but those only go to the people who are fortunate enough to work at the resorts. It was important for me to do this because I wanted to help more of the less fortunate people and I agree that bringing a fully packed suitcase full of medical supplies was the best use of my checked luggage.
