Not Just Tourists Manitoba – Winnipeg wishes to thank traveller Monica and her Mom for taking supplies to Cuba. Monica writes:
“We had a great time in Cuba. We took 1 suitcase from Winnipeg NJT to a children’s hospital in Matanzas (Hospital Pediátrico Docente Provincial “Eliseo Noel Caamaño”), and my mom took 2 suitcases from London NJT to the same pediatric hospital. We brought 3 suitcases of medical supplies in total, and also brought extra items to give the hospital, some powdered milk and children’s Ibuprofen. Many staff members from the hospital were excited and came to watch the suitcases being opened and inspected.
It was important for us to help in some way for several reasons. We are aware of the dire situation of Cuba due to sanctions and embargoes, and of course the ecological footprint of travelling makes it a hard decision for us to vacation – this is just one small thing we could do to help and it allowed us to see more of the beautiful country. I would take more suitcases next time!”
