Not Just Tourists – Winnipeg, Manitoba wants to thank Rob & Marg for taking supplies to Cuba. This is their story:
We got back from Cuba about 5:00 Saturday morning and are now hunkered down for the next 2 weeks. We are self isolating as all Travellers are required to do.
It was a kind of different vacation with lots of rumours and information about Covid-19. We were safe at the resort
and stayed mostly there with visits to some surrounding towns.
We had absolutely no problems at check-in with AirTransit nor at the customs in Cuba. It was about midnight and the customs woman just waved us through when Marg tried to explain and offer the documents.
We delivered the medical suitcase to a clinic in the city of Canasi in the province of Matansas.
I thought I had arranged for a horse and cart to take us and the suitcase the several kilometers from the resort (that would have made for some nice photos) but he never showed up so we went the next day with a private car. The driver, who works at the resort in the dive shop, had previously been involved in a medical suitcase delivery to another town so he knew the routine and was able to explain it in Spanish. Still the doctor, nurse and other staff we met with seemed confused and maybe a little suspicious at first.
Marg had the doctor (one of several at the clinic) fill in and sign the form for you. It looks like typical doctor’s writing. I took some photos and our driver took photos of us outside the clinic. The sun was kind of behind us so they aren’t very good.
As we were leaving, Marg heard the clinic staff start to laugh, apparently with pleasure as they figured out what had
just happened.
We would certainly be prepared to take a suitcase each
the next time we visit Cuba, likely in a year. It was effortless and our only cost was the modest payment to the car driver.
