Shirley delivers medical supplies to Havana

NJT Manitoba – Winnipeg wishes to thank Travellers Shirley and George for taking supplies to Havana, Cuba. This is their story:

“As always we enjoyed a great trip to Havana. It is amazing that with all the challenges the Jazz Festival is a huge success with many, many venues – big and small and this year there were 179 musicians from around the world – who would have thought that an Italian violinist could provide a great jazz set, that the South Korean jazz singer and her performers could keep everyone electrified, that a Nigerian drummer and his team could weave such a story in jazz and of course the amazing Cuban musicians kept everyone coming back for more.

We did not deliver the material directly to the hospital – the doctor picked up the suitcase from our friend’s home – and actually distributed some of the products for a diabetic clinic as well as a couple of other community clinics. As you can imagine the folks were more than pleased to receive these things.

We have also taken Health Partners International medicines several times to Cuba. With a short turnaround from our trip in November /December we could not make an application for HPI – so we were pleased to take this suitcase of supplies. The challenges that the Cuban health system faces is tremendous and who knows what the future may bring based on powers beyond our or Cuban’s control.

Thanks again for making this easy for us to do.”
