Sharing the experience from traveller Mike Barnes.
The front door man at the hotel translated to a very nice cab driver. They looked at me differently when I said I’m going to the hospital. What’s wrong sir. I told them I have a bunch of medical supplies for a donation to the people of Cuba who need it most. My taxi whisked me away to the clinic in Santa Marta just 15 mins away. The cab driver graciously took me up to the admission where she called all the drs. Four wonderful humans dressed in white dr scrubs made me feel so welcome. The waiting room had 30-40 people waiting and more outside. The place was packed and I felt all the eyes on me wondering what a foreign sun burnt tourist was doing there. Next the had me go across the street to their storage area. My cabbie friend wheeled the bag in for me and the sea and I went to fill out the form for NJT. Once they saw what you had packed for them their eyes lit up! One dr grabbed a large ziplock bag of something and hugged it like her own child. Looking up and praising for the needed supplies. As I teared up I said this feels like throwing a bucket on a forest fire. Both of cried as said this is more like sending a water bomber plane. 2 months worth in one bag made me feel like I should have brought 2. I’ve never had a feeling better than that from any synthetic chemical or otherwise!
