From NJT Halifax:
A letter from Eric-recently returned from Cuba-
I had the opportunity to go to Cayo Santa Clara at the Dhawa resort in Cuba from December 28th to January 4th (arrived back home to Dartmouth on the 5th, kind of dramatically).
I had contact Simone a while ago, on the advice of my travel agent. She provided me with a large luggage of medical supplies. I went further and bought toiletries, pencil crayons, not pads, feminine products, and five baseball gloves my family wasn’t using anymore, in two other bags.
I was initially going to go in to Santa Clara, but had talked to the helpful bellhop Miguel at the resort. He said his friend, a taxi driver, can take me in to Placeta, the town where Miguel Perez lives.
I’m so glad he suggested it.
Miguel (on his day off), his wife and son, helped hand out the extra items I brought.
As soon at the hospital administrator opened the luggage he said, through the translation of Miguel, he hasn’t seen half the stuff since medical school. They just don’t have the resources.
He was so pleased with the donation, he quickly wrote up the form about the hospital wants, and gave me a tour.
I know a one-time donation like this is not going to solve every issue this hospital has, but it was a little piece of my heart (thanks to Not Just Tourists) that I gave in memory of my wife who passed away from cancer in September.
Eric Wynne,
