“The first suitcase was donated to a small rural hospital/clinic located about 90 minutes from Harare – Chiota Rural Hospital. You will find attached the details about the clinic. With inflation in Zimbabwe running at over 300%, water shortages, doctors on strike because they don’t earn enough to come to work, the nurses were thrilled to get even the small amount which could be held in a suitcase. The nurses seemed happy just to see a box of gloves. We chose this location because these nurses had been part of a Canada Fund for Local Initiatives micro project addressing gender equality and gender-based violence.
The second suitcase was given to a clinic in Domboshawa which is about 45 minutes outside Harare. We chose this one because it was recommended by another organization that we have worked with called Girl’s Legacy.”- Rene C, Canadian Ambassador to Zimbabwe
