“I’m down here visiting my parents who moved down full time about a year and a half ago. I spent time horseback riding, sailing on a catamaran, meeting up with many family friends, going on day trips around the island, visiting a sloth and monkey reserve and, of course, hanging out by the beach! The hospital we gave the suitcase to is one in Coxen Hole which is one of the main towns on the island and one that caters to mostly locals who aren’t able to afford services at other hospitals on the island or mainland Honduras. It’s a fairly larger space from what I saw, but not nearly as clean or advanced as the places that we’re used to in Canada. But the people are friendly and kind and were very thankful for the supplies!
My mum is the one that first got involved with Not Just Tourists and through her, we’ve brought down suitcases almost every time we’ve come over the last few years. We often have to bring down suitcases anyway full of things that my parents need, so adding another suitcase on top of that one isn’t too bad and I know it’s going to be helping a lot of people!
I’ve attached a photo of my mum and I with two of the hospital coordinators!”
