NJT Manitoba – Winnipeg wishes to thank James and Jeannine for taking supplies to Guatemala! James writes:
We certainly met many interesting people on our trip to Guatemala! One of the hotel staff told us her story about needing to see a Dr but having little money. She said her local clinic was able to help her for no cost. Clinico San Sebastián is only about 500m from the hotel that we stayed at. No problem for us as this was a pleasant walk in a sunny, warm climate!
The clinic staff were very happy to receive this gift from Canada. Guatemala is very beautiful and volcanically active right now. People on the most active volcano, Flores, were being evacuated while we were in Antigua just 16 km away. The evacuation was precautionary and there were no reported injuries, a case of better safe than sorry.
We wanted to carry these supplies because we know how great the need is and we know how fortunate we are to be living in Canada. Also my wife is a retired nurse so we know how greatly appreciated this small act is. We had no difficulties whatsoever bringing the supplies in, no questions were asked.
